Cancer Services
Receiving a cancer diagnosis is, without exception, a very difficult time for both individuals and their families. Whether patients are dealing with breast, lung, prostate, or other cancer, we are here to support them both medically and emotionally.
The Riverview Cancer Center offers radiation therapy patients the convenience of having registration, consultation, and treatment all provided within one department. In addition to radiation therapy, Cancer Services includes chemotherapy, surgery, and support resources.
Advanced technology
Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is an advanced mode of high-precision radiation therapy that delivers precise radiation doses to a malignant tumor or specific areas within the tumor.
Riverview is equipped with PET (Positron Emission Tomography) Scan capabilities often used to detect and evaluate cancer, such as of the lung or breast. The Cancer Center has two linear accelerators which provide the capability to treat several types of cancer. A Digisim simulator is used to localize the cancerous tumor and set up the treatment area.
Highly trained oncologists and staff
The Cancer Center team of professionals works together to meet the physical and emotional needs of each patient. The team is directed by a Radiation Oncologist, a physician who specializes in the therapeutic use of radiation. Other staff include a radiation physicist, radiation therapists, registered nurses, and support staff.
Information regarding the use of mammography and ultrasound in the detection of breast cancer is available in the
Women's Center.
