Discharge planning

A discharge planner will contact you or a family member during your hospitalization to assist with discharge planning, family or personal problems, medical equipment, extended care facility needs, home-based care needs, and referral to community resource services. Discharge planning ensures that each patient is capable of caring for his or her medical needs upon discharge from the hospital. 

Understanding your bill

A daily room charge includes fees for the room, 24-hour nursing care, meals, housekeeping, maintenance and laundry services - all provided for your comfort and to guard you against infection and injury. Special services ordered by your physician, such as operating rooms, pharmacy, X-ray, laboratory tests, anesthesia, physical therapy, respiratory therapy and other diagnostic treatment procedures, will appear as extra charges on your bill.
 
Often, you will get more than one bill because separate bills are issued by Riverview and by individual physicians involved with your care, such as your surgeon and radiologist. Your hospital bill doesn’t include the fees of your attending physician, surgeon, anesthesiologist, pathologist, radiologist or consulting physician. You will be billed by their offices.
 
We will bill your insurance company if you provide us with the necessary information.    
  
Limited or No Insurance?
Patients with no insurance or with limited coverage may make payment arrangements prior to dismissal by contacting one of our Financial Representatives at (317) 776-7144 or (317) 776-7145.

Services you may use after discharge

Health Watch
Health Watch is a program that enables ill or elderly people to have 24-hour contact with a hospital. A small transmitter is worn and used to alert a hospital’s emergency department if a medical problem occurs. For more information, call (317) 338-3508.
 
Premier Membership Program
PREMIER, a membership program offered by Riverview to adults age 55 and over, offers special discounts and services from the hospital, as well as from participating merchants in the community. To receive a brochure, call the Premier office at (317) 776-7235.
 
Mother-Baby Home Visit Program
Because Riverview Hospital is committed to providing quality care for you and your new baby, we offer a home follow-up visit one to four days after your dismissal from the hospital. Sometimes new mothers may feel that they are dismissed before they are comfortable with the demands of a new family. We hope that by providing this home visit program, we can play a role in helping your family off to a positive start.

  • Better Breathers Support Group: For adults with chronic respiratory conditions or lung cancer; call (317) 776-7377.

  • Multiple Sclerosis Support Group: Call (317) 776-7225 for information.
  • RTS Infant Bereavement Support Group: For parents and family members experiencing loss through stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage or newborn death; call (317) 776-7200.
